My Favorite Star

is the Macy’s Logo. I love that store! It’s so far from my house, so I don’t visit as often as I wish, but when I go, I have to have mula in my pocket. Definitely. Went to Plaza Las Americas Mall on Friday so I got my chance to stop by. The place look like black Friday, it was hilarious. Everybody trying to get to everything available. They had 50 to 70% off on home decor and kitchen gadgets, I went crazy, but I restrained myself and only bought 2 sets of sheets valued at $80.00 each for $17.99 each. If that is not a great deal, I don’t know what it is. Wanted to get more, but I don’t spend all my pennies in just one candy store. Maybe next month I will visit again *Ü*

We had a tax free week to buy school stuff, so I went ahead and got a Roxy bag for my daughter. No sale there, but didn’t pay taxes for it, which is a good thing. She’s in love with everything Roxy, so she wanted that bag for a long time. This kids, they get into a fad and they all go crazy! I told her to take care of it for with what I paid, it was good for 3 bags @ Wally World. Although WW is getting very expensive here. But that is another story…

Dollar Store Crafts

I found this blog and I love it! I’m crazy about crafts and if the materials are affordable, much better. With the economy like it is, the dollar and discount stores are treasures for the savvy. And to be able to make crafts from the goodies inside, it’s a double whammy! Kudos to the owners for making crafts this much fun to make

I Care

about my money and finances. Seven years ago, they were a mess. We almost lost the house, the car, our health and our sanity. Too much stress due to my husband’s illness and therefore the lack of income, drove my mind and my nerves to the brink. Thank God for my brother who is an accountant, and my aunt who helped us, we came out of it barely alive, so to speak. I don’t even want to remember the times with no electricity or water, barely food or clothing. The tears, the agony, the despair. Awful. But is necessary to remember the past. Made us grow more responsible and aware. We learned our lesson well. But those days, vivid in my memory, are the ones that made me savvy and frugal.

After my husband retired, we sold the house, tried to settle in Colorado but we couldn’t because of the altitude, so we moved to Puerto Rico to start anew. Now, we spend for things that we need, and every now and then, if we can afford it, we buy things that we want. It has been a rough ride, but we are happy, stress free and content with what we have. Our only debt is the car and it will be paid in a little over 2 years. No credit cards. There are the biggest yoke known to man. Why pay $5.00 in interest for something that cost $1.00? Just because I can have it now? Please. If you wait a week before spending on something vain, you will not buy it. And the regrets afterward are not worth your peace of mind. Anyway, there is a lot of fabric to cut there.

I signed for online banking and all the utilities and the car are withdrawn automatically every month. No worries about being late. It is the best feeling in the world! The freedom, the peace, the financial stress free life is rewarding! Now, for the first time in my life I’m saving money. My account is growing every month and I’m proud of myself. Before I would worry about having savings for an emergency, now, although I don’t have a lot, I see it growing little by little and I feel better. I have learn to live with little and to take advantage of some good deals.

So, while researching on the matter, I came across this blog called the simple dollar. It shows people how to manage their finances in a way that is easy to understand and follow. I recommend a visit.

Going Green

I love the concept and I must confess, I’m a little behind on keeping up with it. So I’m researching the best ways to help the planet.

In the meantime, I found this website that I love and want to recommend. The section living green with the green cheapskate blog is interesting and hilarious.

Dodge Nitro

I have fallen in love with the new Dodge Nitro. It has a mirage of features and the price is under 20 grand. It comes in nitroseveral colors but this candy apple is my favorite (the correct color code is “Inferno Red Crystal Pearl”), and there is an extra 225.00 for it, but it is worth it. If I trade in my Windstar Minivan, the payments would be around 300 a month. Not bad! I will put this in my Santa wish list. My van has been a wonderful companion during our 10 year relationship but I think it is time to move on. We are both tired of each other and ready for a new love affair.
